Teak Deck Oyster 406

Week 82. The usual Saturday excitement was tempered by a 24 hour stomach bug on Friday. Laid low the prospect of an early start Saturday was not relished. Saturday dawned and the stomach stopped growling. Now activity depends on the weather. For the last 20 months we have been privileged to be undercover and did not appreciate how lucky we were. The weather on Saturday was kind and we were not hampered. My wife having caught the bug from my youngest set about servicing the large electric primary winches. The scale and complexity was a little daunting but following it methodically gave a sweet click clack to their operation. During the week Barry and his team polished the now paint job and etched the copper coat to expose the raw copper. She looks a treat and is a credit to TLC. More work was done on finishing the mast camera and further work on the AV systems. Also of note was the arrival of the "RedBox" from MailaSail. This handy gadget provides a portal to the internet via Satellite, 3G and Wi-Fi. It chooses the most economic method. It also provides a Wi-Fi network on the boat for iPads etc. Further upgrades are expected where it will give NEMA over wi-fi and anchor alarms. I wired it into the AV cabinet and connected into the Mac system on the boat. It all worked perfectly. I am looking forward to connecting the WiFi Bat long range aerial to give us BroadBand on the boat when the mast is stepped tomorrow. Talking of which, we decided to get Buckleys to provide a crane to step the mast ahead of the launch. This will give us more time to connect all the systems to the mast. The launch is scheduled for Thursday and I am a little nervous. I hope the weather is kind. Luckily the best sailor I know will be on hand to assist. Jon my surgeon/farmer mate will help me in the jaw dropping passage plan to go from Conwy to Deganwy which is all of a mile. OK you may scoff, but I have never sailed her in anger and I have put more holes in the hull for transducers, water makers, generators and air conditioners so the chance of a sinking keeps me awake at night. Hopefully there will be a week 83 and I will not have to use the insurance claims form for a total loss! Wish us luck.....
