Week 33. A slow week. My bilge cleaner extraordinaire has not been well this week so no boat duo this Saturday. I ventured there but only did a few hours. The plan was to remove the port lights. Spurred on by the success of the hatch replacement I tackled the removal of the port lights. There are 9 in total. The first one I removed some weeks ago using a hammer. A piece of the gell coat came away so I was wary of using a hammer again. A great tip from a fellow 406 owner was to make a bridge at the corner and then use a G clamp to put pressure on the fitting. Well this was genius as it eased out the fitting in a controlled way. The only problem was some of the screws in the aluminium at the base of some port lights were corroded into the fitting. I started by using an impact driver but soon tiered of the slow progress. The trusty cutting disc of the dermal was a much quicker solution. A second task was to work out the fitting of the new disengagement wheel. This allows the helm on autopilot to be disengaged as this putts less stress on the drive unit. I had to have it custom made by Lewmar but the centre boss was not compatable with my pedesal. A little use of a tap and dye set made a M12 thread for the centre boss to fit. All I need now is Lewmar to add a M12 rod to the boss. Request from Lewmar technical awaited. Actually on review I did a lot this week! However things will go slow for a while. It is lads trip next week. Bit of a misnomer as girls have been involved for the last 10 years. Off with my mate in his Rival 38 for a trip to Scotland. Will be nice to blow off the cobwebs but Sephina will have no mates for while.
